CAAT Drone Learn to Fly Challenge
October 22 - 24, 2020
for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students
Build, fly and compete with your very own free drone!
Students learned about the history of flight, the many ways drones are used, and the basic physics that makes them fly. All registered participants received a free EACHINE E520S GPS Drone in our Learn to Fly Challenge. A virtual session using Zoom and an in-person competition were held at Jimmy John's Field in Utica.
Event Schedule:
- Thursday, October 22, 3:00—6:00pm
- Drone pickup at MCC - South Campus
- Friday, October 23, 4:30am—6:30pm
- Live virtual instruction (via Zoom)
- Build, calibrate, and control the drone
- Saturday, October 24, 12:00 - 2:30pm
- in-person competition at Jimmy John's Field
- learn FAA regulations from a licensed pilot
- complete 3 challenges
- compete to win a robot!

CAAT Robot Programming Challenge
Free Virtual Summer Camp
August 31 - September 3, 2020
for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students
Can you learn to program a robot in just 2 days?
Students explored the world of microcontrollers and learned to program a smart car in our FREE virtual summer camp. Students participated in hands-on activities and experiments through trial and error as they built and programmed their own FREE OSOYOO Robot Car.
Camp Schedule:
- Monday, August 31, 12:30—3pm: Technology prep day.
- Enter virtual course and review camp materials
- Tuesday & Wednesday, September 1 & 2, 9:30am—12:30pm: Virtual Camp days.
- Live virtual instruction and programming competition
- Thursday, September 3: Final day to submit competition video

August Robotics Challenge
Free Virtual Summer Camp
August 5 & 6, 2020
Can you build a robot in 2 days?
Middle school students learned to build and program a FREE COSMOS Jimu Robot. Through hands-on activities, experimentation, trial and error, and live virtual instruction, students learned to build and program their very own robot. They then entered their robot into a virtual competition where the grand prize was a set of Apple AirPods.

Girl Scouts Engineering Day
February 22, 2020
The CAAT was pleased to host the
Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan (GSSEM) Engineering Day. Junior, cadette, and senior girl scouts and parents participated in the event at Macomb Community College's South Campus. Girls in 4th-12th grade learned about the fast, exciting world of robotics - from designing to building and showcasing robots. Women from various engineering fields served as mentors and team leaders.
Girl Scouts received hands-on experience to:
- Stretch their science and technological skills
- Focus on problem-solving, innovation, and teamwork
