Explore the world of microcontrollers and learn how to program and fly a Robolink CoDrone Mini Programmable Drone.

Day 2 - June 21, 9:30am - 1:30pm

Students participate in hands-on activities and experiment through trial and error as they build their own take-home Jimu robot.

Girl Scouts Engineering Week

February 26, 2022

The CAAT was pleased to host the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan (GSSEM) Engineering Day. Junior, cadette, and senior girl scouts and parents were invited to participate in the event at Macomb Community College's South Campus. Girls in 4^th-12^th grade learned about the exciting world of robotics - from designing to building and showcasing robots. Women from various engineering fields served as mentors and team leaders.

Girl Scouts received hands-on experience to:

• Stretch their science and technological skills
• Focus on problem-solving, innovation, and teamwork

Project Descriptions

TI-Innovator Rover Robotic Vehicle

Join Texas Instruments in a challenge that experiments with coding and the TI-Innovator™ Rover robotic vehicle while you earn your drivers license through a series of activities including parallel parking, Watch Out for Rover the dog and navigate a series of mazes. Girls will learn how to program using TI-BASIC programming language and will be writing their own programs within 10-minutes of the session.

Dream with Robots Challenge

Work with Macomb Community College’s Center for Advanced Automotive Technology (CAAT) to design, build and code your own robot in our Dream with Robots challenge. Learn about the engineering design process working in small groups while using UB Tech Design Kits. Advanced and intermediate kits will be available for different age groups to discover what makes engineering both interesting and so much fun! At the end of the session, groups will present their project to demonstrate what their invention was programmed to do.

MCC Great Pumpkin Fest

October 16, 2021
Macomb Community College, Warren MI

CAAT hosted mBot and drone challenges during this Macomb Community College open house event.

An mBot car follows a path automatically, navigates an obstacle course, or responds to your commands.

Students demonstrate drone skills by navigating through a hoop, landing on a set landing pad, or knocking over bowling pins.

This free event was open to the public. There was music, food, and lots of fun for all ages.

Dream with Robots Programming Camp

August 16 & 17, 2021
Macomb Community College, Warren MI

Explored the engineering design process by inventing your own project using the UB Tech - Dream with Robots Advanced kit with over 1000 pieces, 16 servos and a real Arduino – compatible microcontroller. We also got an introduction to circuitry fundamentals and electrical engineering by working on the circuits curriculum.

mBot Programming Challenge

The Center for Advanced Automotive Technology is offering a FREE mBot Programming Challenge at area schools and at the Michigan Science Center. Explore the world of microcontrollers by assembling and programming your own FREE mBot robot. A robot prize will be given for the best program design.

Girl Scouts
Drone Programming Challenge

February 25, 2021 and March 6, 2021

CAAT was pleased to work with the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan and Women Who Drone organizations to provide 35 local Girl Scouts with an exciting oportunity to learn how to program and fly a drone.

Girl Scout Cadettes explored the world of microcontrollers and learned how to program a Robolink CoDrone Mini Programmable Drone in our FREE Girl Scouts Drone Programming Challenge. It included a virtual session via Zoom, a video competition, and a live, in-person drone flying competition.

Students experimented through trial and error as they built and programmed their own drone and learned the foundational concepts of coding. Students programmed their own custom flight patterns, learned how to navigate, take off and land, and more.

• Thursday, February 25, 4:00pm—6:30pm
  • Welcome and Introduction
  • Live virtual instruction via Zoom on building and programming the drone with Saleta McMurray, CAAT Outreach Coordinator
  • Hear from Elena Buenrostro, President & CEO of Women Who Drone, Video Producer, Photographer, Certified Drone Pilot and Instructor

  • Live, in-person drone competition (1^st place winner to receive a robot)
  • Location: First United Methodist Church in Troy, MI
