RET Days Event Increases Interest in STEM Careers
Approximately 1700 students from local middle and high schools got a close look at the technology that will drive the future – and possibly their careers - at the 9th annual Robotics, Engineering and Technology (RET) Days event hosted by Macomb Community College at their South Campus Sports and Expo Center, December 3-4, 2013.
This free event was cosponsored by the Center for Advanced Automotive Technology, the National Science Foundation and Macomb Intermediate School District. Also providing support for the event were AT&T, DTE Energy Foundation, Genesys and Michigan Schools and Government Credit Unions, Oakland University, SME Education Foundation and Square One Network.
The event is designed to spark student interest in rapidly growing career fields in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Students learned about STEM from leading experts in the field and had the chance to experiment hands on with some new and emerging technology such as underwater robotics, electric vehicle technology, mobile banking technology and renewable energy.
