    Automotive Technology - Vehicle Engineering Technician

    Prospective students and their families are welcome to join us to learn more about Macomb’s Vehicle Engineering Technician (VET) program. This program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and abilities required for entry level positions in the automotive industry. Students successfully completing the VET program will have the technical skills required to assist engineers in the development of electro-mechanical systems for the next generation of safe, efficient, intelligent vehicles.




    The Vehicle Engineering Technician (VET) program develops the skills, knowledge and abilities required for entry-level positions in the automotive industry. Students successfully completing this program will have the technical skills required to assist engineers in the development of electro-mechanical systems for the next generation of safe, efficient, intelligent vehicles.

    The automobile is an increasingly complex product controlled by a computer. For technicians working on these vehicles, a new versatile skill set is required. Auto companies and suppliers are looking for a combination of technical skills for product development in electrified and automated/connected vehicles and experimental vehicle testing.

    Macomb's VET program uniquely blends aspects of mechanical, electronic, and software skills to give students specific expertise to work in the engineering and development areas of the automotive industry.

    Program Outcomes:

    Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

    • Safely work on electrical, flammable, and high-pressure systems
    • Assemble and disassemble prototype and test systems
    • Set up electric and electronic systems and run experiments
    • Write software programs to acquire data and control test systems
    • Write and orally present test reports for engineers using analyzed data
