FREE! Hands-on Career Exploration Lab!

A new STEM outreach program designed for any youth group from 5^th - 9^th grades!

The Center for Advanced Automotive Technology (CAAT) at Macomb Community College is excited to announce the launch of Career Exploration Labs (CEL’s), a new FREE STEM outreach program! The purpose of the CEL’s is to demonstrate to young students the exciting opportunities available in engineering by doing hands-on projects, with the intention that it will spark their interest in pursuing a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) career.

During the three-hour Career Exploration Lab, students will design, build and test various engineering projects (examples include hovercrafts, catapults and safety helmets).*  They will also learn about engineering careers and have chances to win free prizes. The CEL’s are designed to include parent involvement. One parent per student is recommended. The purpose of including parents is to have them to speak to their student about pursuing an engineering or technician career, before they enter high school and make an alternative career choice.

Attention Girl and Boy Scout Troop Leaders!  Scouts will receive a STEAM patch for completing a CEL.

A maximum of 20 students and 20 parents can register for each lab. Days and times for these 3-hour labs are flexible, labs are held at Macomb Community College’s South Campus in Warren, MI.

*Lab projects can be discussed after a CEL request has been submitted.

The CAAT is a National Science Foundation (NSF) Advanced Technological Education (ATE) Center. The Career Exploration Labs are sponsored by Macomb Community College, the NSF and CAAT.
