Preparing the Workforce for the Automotive Technology of 2025

The 2013 Center for Advanced Automotive Technology Conference on Preparing the Workforce for the Automotive Technology of 2025 was held on May 30, 2013 at the Macomb Community College South Campus in Warren, MI. The conference was attended by more than 80 individuals representing various high schools, community colleges and universities as well as multiple government agencies, professional organizations and industry workforce representatives.

The conference was co-sponsored by the Center for Automotive Research (CAR), the Design and Manufacturing Alliance (DMA), and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) International. The conference explored how the technologies of 2025 will affect required job skills. Various speakers addressed the impacts of the new fuel economy standards and the tools required to meet them. We were pleased to have Dr. Jay Baron, President and CEO of the Center for Automotive Research, as our keynote speaker. Jay’s presentation focused on the Technology of 2025 and included information on lightweighting, fuel economy, intelligent vehicles and vehicle electrification. Mac Lister from the US Department of Transportation spoke on Intelligent Transportation Systems, and Dominic DiCicco from Ford Motor Company provided an automaker’s perspective on energy and climate and Ford’s sustainability strategy.

Three Breakout sessions were also conducted at the conference with focus on jobs for the 2025 workforce, filling the workforce pipeline, and seed funding opportunities for curriculum development.  Copies of the conference presentations and handouts are available below.
